It was stressed that Dniprovsk-Donetsk and Lviv-Volyn regions are prospective in terms of shale gas reserves that generally amount to 1,19 trillion cubic meters.
At the same time, rapporteurs noted that transfer of estimated resources into the category of proved reserves requires approximately USD 500 million and 5-year period of time.
According to the participants of discussion, holding of the abovementioned work requires investment. However, this is a high risk investment, since as of today the possibility of finding commercially attractive reserves does not exceed 30%.
Committee members noted also that only leading international energy companies that posses modern and safe technologies and have enough experience can be allowed to participate in shale gas exploration and development.
Following the results of discussion, the decision was taken to recommend the Committee on Fuel and Energy Complex, Nuclear Policy and Nuclear Safety address the government with a suggestion to mandate the respective ministries and departments to:
elaborate the issue regarding expediency of the bill on unconventional hydrocarbons;
consider the issue of amendments to the Tax and Subsoil Codes of Ukraine;
elaborate new and amend the existing regulatory subordinate act, etc.
